How to come up with digital products that sell…
I have created a lot of digital products over the years. In fact, at one point I had and sold over 100 different types of digital products.
Perhaps you're wondering which one sold the most.
Was it an e-book? Was it an audio file? Was it a course? Was it a guide? Was it templates? Was it a bundle?
Which digital products was it?
Here’s what I learned.
It doesn't actually matter which type of digital product you create. What matters is what the digital product is about!
Does it solve a painful problem for your following?
Does what you're teaching align with the type of digital product that you're going to package it in? And are you properly selling it?
All of those types of things.
Because after creating more than 100 different types of digital products, I learned that it wasn't about the type of digital product, but rather the information inside of the digital product. And if that digital product is going to get your followers the result they want in a quick and easy format.
My mistakes in creating digital products…
So over the years, as I was creating all those different types of digital products, I was making one really big mistake.
I wasn't thinking about my followers and what they needed help with.
I was just simply thinking about what type of digital product sounded fun for me to create. What did I want to create?
So I went on to create templates and bundles and ebooks and guides and courses and all these things that I talked about.
But the products that sold the best were the products that solved my following problems.
My three-part framework for creating successful digital products…
1. Grow a following that you can help
First of all, select the social media platform that you want to grow on, you can always change later, so choose the one that most interests you. Go all in on it and stay consistent with it.
Maybe it's blogging, maybe it's a podcast, maybe it's YouTube, maybe it's Instagram and TikTok, whatever that is. Pick what will be fun and you can stay consistent with that. As you grow your following, grow your email list so you can create a freebie and move your followers to email subscribers.
2. Talk to your followers
Listen to your followers, talk to them, and figure out what their biggest problems and pain points are. Think about which of those problems and pain points can you solve for them based on your own experience.
3. Create digital products that solve your followers’ pain points
Create a digital product that will help solve your follower's painful problems.
Whether it be a step-by-step guide, a 13-page ebook, or an audio file, it doesn’t really matter. Just make sure that you’ll create a digital product that is so good and let word-of-mouth marketing do the rest for you.
Final Thoughts
All in all, the products that would solve your following’s painful problems were the products that sold best!
It doesn't really matter the type of digital product. It doesn't matter if it's an audio or a video or a written digital file. What does matter is actually getting your followers results.
If you are not creating a digital product that actually helps people, it is going to be like pushing a boulder uphill, trying to get sales of that digital product. But if you create something that you've done before and you've had success with, you can also help somebody overcome that problem based on your experience and results, very quickly, very easily, and in a step-by-step format.
